Introduction from new area Inspector |
||
|
Hello, I’m Inspector Dan Gahagan. I’m the Local Policing Unit (LPU) Inspector for Derby West, which covers the neighbourhood areas of Mickleover, Littleover, Abbey, Rosehill and Normanton.
I have been in this role since October 2025, having taken over from Inspector Dachtler. I would like to place on record my thanks to Inspector Dachtler for her hard work and the dedication she has shown.
I have been a Police Officer for over 11 years. Predominantly, this has been in uniform roles both in Response, Investigation and Safer Neighbourhood roles. I spent a brief period supervising a team on CID in recent years, which was invaluable. Prior to my current role, I was a Reactive Inspector for 18 months, working alongside response teams across the 5 LPU teams on South Division. I am also a PSU (Police Support Unit) Inspector, PSU Medic and a JESIP commander, amongst other roles. Although predominantly my policing experience has been within the City, I have worked across South Division, and within North Division.
Here at Derby West, I have a dedicated, enthusiastic and hard-working team of Sergeant’s, PC’s, PCSO’s and Special Constables. I have been impressed by the work I have seen so far and I’m looking forward to utilising my skills and experience to improve upon the service we deliver to the public.
As we enter 2026, I have agreed upon the policing priorities for each area for the first quarter. These priorities have been set against what we can see from crime and incident data, surveys conducted by my Safer Neighbourhood Team, and the voices of the community. Our policing priorities are agreed for each quarter (January, April, July & October) and moving forwards, we are looking to gain more of your views. One way we do this is through community surveying. I do ask when these surveys are completed that you submit your views, to help us design our priorities to the community views. To find out about the policing priorities in your area, please go to our website and look at the ‘Your Area’ section (they will refresh to the new ones in the New Year). On here not only will you find out about the policing priorities, but also who is on the policing team for your area, scheduled meetings and events where the team will be, and other useful information.
I wish you all a safe and enjoyable time over the festive period and look forward to bringing you my next update in March 2026.
